Lochnagar 01.03.17

1st March 2017

Lighter winds today which made for slightly more pleasant conditions: In the glens it definitely felt like the start of the meteorological spring. Not in the mountains though – it’s definitely still winter up there. Strong winds late yesterday and overnight have stripped some aspects and redistributed windslab into new locations – steep sheltered places such as gully exits have the deepest amounts.

Stronger winds tomorrow with the chance of some light, intermittent snow showers during the afternoon…

Jenga – Lochnagar style

Top of Black Spout (Right hand branch)

Lots of virgin snow – only saw one pair of climbers today

Very recently redistributed windslab – Up to 60cm at the top of some gullies

Very steep (unconsolidated) snow in the exit to Black Spout (Left hand branch)
