A change in the wind.

14th February 2017

Today was a windy day, again cloudy around 900 metres but with occasional breaks. Some good touring options although any slope or ridge exposed to the winds is often scoured. Flipside is burn lines are often full and can make a good route on ski’s. Weaker layers can still be found in deeper deposits but snow stability continues to improve. Winds will be turning to the South tomorrow, remaining dry but there will precipitation  following soon, question is will we get snow or rain?

Surface hoar. Very noticeable at lower levels.

Looking towards Lochnagar, presume the tracks are heading for The Stuic. Must have been hard work!

Many open slopes are firm or scoured. There are some good options for ski touring but many tops are now heavily scoured.
