Avalanche search and rescue training.

19th February 2017

A pleasant day on the hill today. Sadly our snow is gradually going. However there is some Wintry weather forecast during this week………lets hope we see a return to Winter.

Looking over to Glas Maol.

Today there was a joint avalanche training exercise between Glenshee Ski Patrol and Braemar Mountain Rescue Team. The Team have very good rescue protocols and regularly practice them, sometimes with other agencies.

Glenshee Ski Patrol have their own search dog Bodie, who got to play later.

Some of the team ‘manufactured’ an avalanche, perfect job for a practice.

Bill making the first sweep.

The team were ‘drip fed’ into the training scenario to simulate the time it takes to walk or be helicoptered in.

Site commander and observer supervise proceedings.
