Mild, windy & cloudy

25th January 2017

With temperatures reaching plus 4 degrees centigrade at 900 metres last night there has been a softening of the snow patches and a reduction in their depth and distribution. There is less obvious water-ice present underfoot as well with the ground mostly soft and water logged. Winds were gale force with some pretty strong gusts – not a particularly inspiring day but it certainly blew the cobwebs away. Inversion conditions tomorrow should see sub-zero temperatures at 900 metres with the patchy snow freezing up and becoming firm and icy again.
