A cold and windy Lochnagar.

12th January 2017

We had snow down to valley last night but today was mainly dry, cold and windy. There is a thin covering of new snow, again mostly it was blasted from the hill in the very strong winds.

Superficial light dry snow is found on most aspects.

Ascending the West Ridge. No sign of ice forming yet despite the cooler temperatures.

Shadow Buttresses/Eagle Ridge.

Raeburns Gully. These aspects have had a lot of wind going up them, very little snow is in them.

Top of West Gully.

Raised Footprints from a mountain hare.

Lochnagar plateau, blasted by wind, there is little build up.

A view across Black Spout pinnacle.

Looking across to Beinn a Bhuird Corries.

Great to have SAIS back up and running. And at last what may be the start of a proper winter. I have to say there are some great photos here. Keep up the good work 🙂

Some of the best pictures I’ve seen on SAIS. Great effort today.
