Lochnagar

14th February 2015

Another poor visibility day. Some walkers were disappointed to find out it was not an inversion! Pea soup all the way. The corrie was busy today, a few teams out climbing. Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team members were also in, climbing various routes, which was useful, as a skier made a very quick descent of Black Spout without his ski’s. fortunately he was unhurt and walked out with a team member.

Some of the cornices are pretty big and glide cracks have appeared at the top of Central Gully. They often form here but it doesn’t always avalanche. Difficult to predict what happens.

Large cornices exist in some locations. Difficult to scale in these conditions.....but this ones big!
