Sun and Snow on Lochnagar

16th February 2014

The first fine day for a long time!
Great cover for ski touring. Looking towards Little Pap, Cuidhe Crom and Meikle Pap. Skiable from the edge of the wood above Allt-na-Giubhsaich in Glen Muick.
The cloud cleared off the cliff by midday. Not seen it for a while. Almost every boulder in the corrie is now buried…as is much of the climbing! Significant cornices.

Huge build up of snow. Black Spout is broad gully left of centre. There was no one in the corrie today.

Looking towards Deeside. This is at the site of the first aid box in the corrie which is maintained by Braemar Mountain Rescue. It is well buried at present. My 3 metre probe is visible just left of shovel, it did not reach the ground where the box is. Anyone fancy some digging?

Large blocks of debris and cornice. Here looking up to Central Buttress.
The upper section of Eagle Ridge. Douglas Gibson gully to the left, debris below this in the corrie. Note the cornices.
