Lochnagar 20th April

20th April 2013

Quite windy today with some strong gusts but no precipitation and the cloud base was just above most tops, so a good day really. A slow thaw continues at lower levels and the ice on Lochnagar has just started to crack at the point where the burn enters the loch.

The buttresses are stripping back but some lines are holding snow, and a couple of climbers were spotted heading into the corrie today.

Quite a large set of debris that came down out of the Central Gully area, probably during the major thaw last Sunday. Click on the photo to enlarge and you’ll see some fairly large blocks in there.

There is still a fair amount of snow in the corrie and a number of people were seen carrying skis up the track this morning.
