Broad Cairn

6th April 2013

Back into Glen Muick today as I wanted to have a look at the avalanche debris that has crossed the path on the south side of the loch, and see what is still left to come down…

As it was an absolutely stunning day, a trip onto Broad Cairn seemed like a great idea. I was out very early morning – not long after 7am – and the snow was perfectly firm after the cold, clear night. It didn’t take long for the sun to warm everything up though and it quickly felt like being on a glacier in the alps!

At the risk of repeating myself, I have to say it again – skis would have been perfect for covering the terrain quickly today. The cover is fantastic and the snow would have made for memorable descents.

Glas-allt-Shiel looked beautiful in the early morning sun: If only they needed a live-in caretaker!

There’s been a little bit of snow forecast for the next period but it isn’t expected to be significant and the winds will continue to be light. Enjoy the rest of your weekend…..
