Lochnagar

Setting off from Ballater it was a cold, clear and frosty morning. By the Col beside Meikle Pap it had clouded over but it was good to see the dusting of fresh snow above.

The cloud hung around the upper half of the cliff. Sad to see the ice pitch at the start of Parallel A is no longer complete. Over on West gully the first pitch remains but on closer inspection it may prove fragile and partially detached.

Walking back down the track to Glen Muick I met a local snowboarder with plans for The Black Spout. (Obvious wide gully to right in picture below). I hope it went well for him!

Leaving the Corrie the cloud lifted a bit. Some large cornices remain at the tops of the gullies.
