Winter’s Back!

31st January 2008

Well we got our snow! The team up at the Glenshee Ski Centre are working hard to piste it all before it blows away again. The winds have been very strong so although its been snowing some areas are stripped of snow and other areas are heavily drifted in. The new windslab is very unstable and significant in its depth. Crystal identification was fairly impossible today as there was so much snow blowing around – hence the lack of photos from higher up – it was all fairly white up there.
A big well done goes out to the joint effort of Braemar and Grampian Police Mountain Rescue Teams who both turned out late last night to assist an injured climber. They produced a positive outcome in extremely difficult conditions. Hope you all get a decent nights sleep tonight!
The next 24hrs are going to be very difficult as well – with further snowfall and strong winds forecast. Mountain travel will be difficult and natural avalanches will occur on a number of different aspects due to the variable winds. Take it easy…
