Wet Wet Wet

13th January 2008

Sorry – no other way to describe it. Today was decidedly damp. I managed to drown my mobile phone so there seemed little point getting the camera out! It would be too depressing after yesterday’s fantastic views.
Right, the surface layers of the snow are wet at all altitudes at present and shallow cover is breaking through rapidly in the driving rain especially at lower elevations. But don’t despair as it is turning colder tomorrow(Monday) with a 600 metre freezing level and even some snow showers forecast.
So this rapid melt/freeze cycle should actually help improve the climbing conditions and hopefully the snow will have more of a base to it and should be around for a while longer.
Will let you know…

Sam
