News: Lochnagar Survives the thaw!

14th January 2008

We had a hard plod into Lochnagar today. Still plenty snow around despite the thaw.
As you would expect there is plenty of debris in the Corrie. Unusually not to much from Central Gully but everything else had debris. Hopefully the climbing will improve, at least the screes have filled in and when refrozen will make getting round the corrie much easier.
The pit was under Sinister Buttress area.
We are expecting further snowfall. As it’s a complicated weather system developing it will be worth watching the evening forecast. We’re expecting heavy snow then possibly rain but regardless the winds will strengthen significantly towards the end of the day.

Might not be your best day out you’ve had.
I’ve taken some video from the rescue box area, I’ll try put it on in the morning.
Paul.
