Dubh Loch + Lochnagar

5th March 2007

Bit of an unstable period overnight as there was a few piles of debris in Lochnagar this morning. Otherwise the snow has again refrozen, some of the routes are in reasonable nick, there’s just not many to choose from, the lack of snow on the main buttress routes is a problem. S. Corrie still holds more snow, routes such as Iffy have plenty of snow in them. No doubt the recent thaw freeze cycles are helping the climbing, worth keeping an eye on.
The Dubh Loch looks quite sad at the moment, lots of ice smears, some ice has built up on the left side. To be fair there is more than I thought, Funeral falls has a fair bit on it but needs a little more yet.
Eagle Rocks is poor, it’s never had enough snow above it to feed the watercourses.
Sounds a bit of doom and gloom, but in fact it’s probably the best we’ve had so far!
