A cold Lochnagar.

14th December 2018

It was a pleasant enough day on the hills today but very cold in the strong winds.

There has been some decent snowfall in recent weeks with a number of avalanches reported throughout the area. However recent thaw/freeze cycles have left a generally lean and icy snow cover in all locations.

New snowfall is expected later on Saturday afternoon but otherwise little will alter during the day.

Sam looking into the main Corrie.

Icy underfoot above 900 metres.

Rime ice forming on rocks.

Very windy and cold in exposed locations.

There are a few larger patches of snow but generally conditions are lean.
