Lochnagar

24th February 2018

It was a very cold and windy day……..again. Not complaining, just not used to it!

Climbing in Lochnagar Corrie generally looking very good at the moment but the snow continues to weaken under the strong surface crust in the current cold conditions. Where the crust is thinner there is a noticeable difference, often becoming poor for axe and foot placements.

As per yesterday’s blog – it’s very icy out there. All slopes are hard and icy often with poor run outs.

The False Corrie. Good ice build up, as has the main Corrie.

Climbing conditions are generally good but some exits require care as they are a bit ‘cruddy’.
