A gentle thaw.

17th December 2017

Initially it was a wet and cloudy start to the day. There has been some snow loss but generally it still looks fairly wintry on the hills for now.  Unfortunately further thaws are on the cards but there is potential for some snow later in the week.

Despite todays driech weather it was great to see Braemar Mountain Rescue Team out training today.

It was a wet walk up to today’s snow pit site.

Starting to clear early afternoon.

The Cairnwell. Not long after this picture was taken the rain started again.

The SAIS is fortunate to be sponsored by both Mountain Equipment and Gore-Tex. Much appreciated, particularly on a day like today! Always a good day if your underpants stay dry!!
