Mixed snowpack

3rd February 2015

I think we’ve had more clear days this year than the whole of last season already. It’s also a contrast to the conditions Northern Cairngorms have been getting lately. It’s a very mixed snowpack with people noticing how scoured the area is first. There is also some deep windslab around so route choice is important.

We visited Creagan Bheithe today, one of the original ski areas before Glenshee was built.

Another windy,cold but clear day.

Part of the old ski tow. Excellent skiing down from here.

There is some excellent skiing to be had but there is also some windslab in places.
