Snow and no viz!

17th January 2008

It was snowing and blowing today – yours truly did several undignified head plants after skiing into deep drifts due to the fact that I couldn’t see anything. The new snow is sitting very uneasily on the refrozen crust underneath so caution is required. Some cornices are forming as well.
The weather is going to be quite changeable in terms of wind speed and direction and in terms of the freezing level, so it is worth checking as many up to date weather forecasts as you can for Friday. It looks like further snow for Friday morning but then this will turn to rain as the freezing level rises well above the tops. The winds are due to increase considerably as well, so Friday afternoon might be fairly unpleasant on the higher hills.
